The Pantry Butler

Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 2026

The Pantry Butler, a product of My Media Matters LLC ("we", "us"), respects your privacy. This policy explains what we collect and how we use it. My Media Matters LLC is the data controller for personal information processed through the Service.

What we collect

When you create an account, we store your email address (used to send you a passwordless sign-in link). We store the content you save — recipes, pantry items, shopping lists, meal plans, photos, and profile details. If you subscribe to Premium, our payment processor (Stripe) handles your card details and shares limited billing information (such as your subscription status) with us; we never see or store your full card number. We use a strictly-necessary cookie to keep you signed in, and — only with your consent — analytics and advertising cookies (see "Cookies, analytics & advertising" below).

Grocery-order email import

If you opt in to auto-import, you can add the email address(es) your grocery orders come from and forward order-confirmation emails to orders@thepantrybutler.com. We store those sender addresses (to match orders to your account) and process the contents of emails you forward — using AI — to add the items to your pantry. We only process emails you choose to send us, and only to provide this feature.

How we use it

We use your information to operate the service: to sign you in, save and show you your content, process your subscription, and power AI features. We send the recipe text, pantry lists, and forwarded order emails you provide to our AI provider (Anthropic) to structure recipes, sort pantry items, and answer questions. We do not sell your personal information for money. We share limited data with advertising partners as described below, which some laws treat as a "sale" or "share" — you can opt out (see "Your rights & choices").

Connecting an AI assistant

You can connect The Pantry Butler to an AI assistant — Meta Muse, ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity or anything else that reads a standard API. This only happens if you choose to do it; there is no connection unless you make one.

There are two ways it can happen. Most assistants now use OAuth: the assistant sends you here, we show you a consent screen naming the assistant and listing exactly what it is asking to do, and nothing is granted until you press Allow. There is no token for you to copy, paste or keep safe. If you press Allow, we issue that assistant its own credential, scoped to what the screen said and to nothing else. The other way is to create an API token by hand at thepantrybutler.com/connect, which suits scripts and self-hosted tools. Either way the access is the same and so are the limits below.

A token lets that assistant read your saved recipes and your pantry, and, if you give it the write permission, add pantry items on your behalf. A token cannot reach anything else. It cannot see or change your subscription, alter your account settings, delete your account, or read your email address. We do not send your data to any assistant — the assistant asks us for it, using your token, and what it then does with that information is governed by that company's own privacy policy, not ours.

Tokens are stored only as a one-way hash, are shown to you once, and can be revoked at any time from thepantrybutler.com/connect — revoking one stops it working immediately. This is true of an assistant you connected with OAuth as well: it appears in the same list, under the name that assistant gave when it connected, and disconnecting it there cuts it off at once. You can also give a token you made yourself an expiry date. We record when a token or connection was last used, so you can spot one you have forgotten about.

Recipe creators

We credit the cooks and creators whose recipes members save, and we give creators who partner with us aggregate, de-identified information about how their own recipes perform in the app — for example, how many people saved a recipe, how many cooked it, which of their recipes did best, and a country- or state-level breakdown of that activity. Creators never receive your identity. We do not give them your name, email address, account, pantry, or a list of who saved anything, and we suppress any breakdown small enough that it could point at an individual.

There is one exception, and it is always your choice: if you deliberately send something to a creator — for example, a photo of a dish you cooked, along with your display name and a note — then that creator sees what you sent. Nothing is sent unless you send it, the choice is made each time, and you can ask us to remove it at any time by writing to hello@thepantrybutler.com.

Service providers (sub-processors)

We rely on trusted providers to run the service. Each processes only the data needed for its role, under its own privacy terms:

Some outbound links are affiliate links (see our Affiliate Disclosure); when you click one, the destination site (such as Amazon) is governed by its own privacy policy.

Cookies, analytics & advertising

We use one strictly-necessary cookie to keep you signed in — this is always on and is not used for advertising.

We also use analytics and advertising cookies and pixels from Google Analytics 4 and the Meta (Facebook) Pixel. These help us understand how the site is used and measure our ads; they may set cookies and share limited event data (such as page views, sign-ups, and purchases) with Google and Meta, which can involve cross-site tracking. These load by default to measure our site and ads, but you can opt out anytime: choose "Opt out" on our cookie notice, or use the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" / cookie preferences link — we'll stop loading them for you on this browser.

Data retention

We keep your account and the content you save for as long as your account is active. Sign-in links expire after 1 hour and sessions expire after 30 days. When you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal data promptly.

Children's privacy

The Pantry Butler is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Your rights & choices

You can sign out anytime, edit or delete recipes and pantry items you've saved, and delete your account and associated data from your Account settings or by emailing us. You can also manage your cookie choice here: review cookie preferences.

California (CCPA/CPRA): If you're a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to access or delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We don't sell your information for money, but our use of advertising cookies (Meta/Google) may be considered "sharing." You can opt out by choosing "Opt out" on our cookie notice (or "review cookie preferences" above). We won't discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

EEA/UK (GDPR): If you're in the European Economic Area or the UK, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Our legal bases are: performing our contract with you (running your account), your consent (analytics/advertising cookies and grocery-email import), and our legitimate interests (securing and improving the service). You can withdraw consent anytime, and you may lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@thepantrybutler.com and we'll respond as required by law.
